You left out another 'distraction' : Objects that people hang from their rear view mirrors! Did you know: Statistically, people who have junk swinging from their rear view mirrors are involved in more traffic accidents than those who do not hang such objects from their rear view mirrors? This has to do with peripheral vision: Our eyes follow the swinging object(s) as an involuntary action, for a split second or two, here and there... sufficient distraction to precipitate potentially detrimental consequences. As well, these objects at times create moving reflections on the windshield(!) creating an even greater visual impediment for the vehicle operator... WATCH OUT!!!

P.S. Stuffed animals lining the rear window, anyone?

While I was reading your blog I was readily agreeing with your points. Moving here from the Midwest seven years ago, the hardest thing to adjust to was the driving patterns. And the rubbernecking is one thing that just makes me ashamed to live here.
On the other hand, assuming that all drivers who won't get out of the fast lane are women (I've seen plenty of men do this) and coupling that with the offensive word you used--is just uncalled for.
